Creating these works on paper has been a labor of love, as it involves numerous steps and processes. These mixed-media compositions consist of paper, ink, metals, pencil, pastels, wax and paint. I am interested in how layering these materials with my digital images adds depth, creates tension, and changes the feel of the work.
There is an organic, authentic quality to my pieces which underscores the beauty of my subjects. The layering of paint, print and metal lends a textural quality which elevates my subjects, celebrates our world, and emphasizes beauty in nature.
I have always found great inspiration in the natural world. I've long admired the paintings of Henri Rousseau, which led me to play with enlarging graphic elements. In addition, the rendering of color in Gauguin's Tahitian paintings and Matisse's cutouts made lasting impressions on me when I saw them as a teenager. Evoking emotion through color is important to me.
Whether I inject color digitally; or by using hand-dyed Japanese sterling silver leaf; or gilding with bright gold, silver and copper; or through the use of pigmented encaustic materials and colored pencils and paints; color placement is as important as subject matter.

About 25 years ago I was introduced to some stunning, handcrafted wallpapers in New York City; the idea to create innovative wallcoverings and art work germinated from there. In 2012 I started my business, Plumline Studio, to achieve an artistic marriage of precise, printed images with the fluidity of paint. It took me years to research and test different media, to ensure compatibility with paints and inks. Through experimentation I forged the processes and techniques through which I continue to create my mixed-media pieces.
I produced custom wallcoverings for a number of years, before segueing into chiefly making artwork. I currently create handcrafted jewelry, artwork and archival prints for other artists.
My work has been shown at Gallery Jupiter, Little Silver NJ; Tabbatha Henry Designs, Waterbury VT; CSM Art & Frame, Chatham NJ; Highlandtown Gallery, Baltimore MD; and Aubrey Artworks, St. John VI.
I received my BA in English with a minor in Art History from Drew University, and an MA in English from NYU. I subsequently studied faux painting at The Finishing School in New York and ran a decorative painting business, The Magic Brush, for over 15 years. I currently reside in and work from Red Bank, NJ.
